Tucked away, just off busy Route 6 in Johnston, Rhode Island you'll find a hidden gem, Verde Vineyards. An absolutely stunning property. But' Verde's biggest asset is it's owner and winemaker Giacomo "Jim" Verde. Never have I met a person so completely dedicated to his craft. Jim is both charismatic and friendly, he will take the time to make you feel at home and to educate you on the winemaking process.
Verde vineyards uses traditional winemaking techniques, handpicked grapes, open fermentation and oak barrel aging. They say these techniques produce a wine reminiscent of the southern Rhône Valley.
We enjoyed both the St. Croix and the Cayuga White. Not normally being red wine drinkers, we found the St. Croix much to our liking. With a well rounded flavor add a little more body than typically found in other red wines.
The Tasting room was well comfortable and inviting and our host and owner made it one of our most enjoyable tastings. Stop in and pay Jim a visit, you'll be impressed with both Jim and his wines.
